Dogs have become man`s best friends so when training them, you should do it with care and love. Truly, dogs are lovely animals but they could become messy when they urinate or defecate in the house. The first thing is that when you intend to train a dog, it must be done from the puppy stage. You definitely do not want to train your dog when it is old. Most dogs like scratching the ground when they feel like defecating and most dogs like sniffing the ground when they feel like urinating. Watch your dog`s actions and make it a duty to take it to its potty spot on regular basis. In no time, your dog will become used to it!
Furthermore, you should never shout at or hit your dog when it relieves itself in an inappropriate spot (would you shout at or hit your baby if it does the same). Correct it with care. Do not hit or smack your dog, it makes it feel unsafe with you. You should stop it with a stern “NO” or ‘STOP” (if you catch it doing such) and take it to the potty spot immediately. You could use the compensation method; that is; you compensate it with a snack or something when it urinates or defecates at the right spot without you taking it there. This encourages the dog to do such on regular basis.
Like I said earlier, the major things you should consider while training your dog is to be consistent, watchful, compensate it when it does it willingly at the right spot, correct it with love and in no time, your dog will be your best friend relieving itself at the right spot at the right time.
